“Like Zadoorian’s earlier novels—The Lost Tiki Palaces of Detroit, The Leisure Seeker and Beautiful Music—this new novel brims with wit, passion and soul.”
—The Millions, one of The Millions’ Most Anticipated Books of 2020
A message from author Michael Zadoorian: You’re stuck inside. There’s nothing to do. You’ve binged all the shows. You’ve Zoomed all your friends and frankly, you’re a little sick of them. You’re thinking, “Why doesn’t someone live stream something really exciting — like a literary reading?”
Well, it’s happening. I’m doing a special Facebook Live event on the launch day of my new novel from Akashic Books, THE NARCISSISM OF SMALL DIFFERENCES. On Tuesday, May 5th at 8pm ET, I’ll do a live reading from the book with musical accompaniment by my virtuoso pal, Oscar & Grammy winner Luis Resto. After that, we’ll have a live virtual Q&A. (Just in case, I’ll have questions ready, complete with fake names.)
We’ll also have a virtual book table. Signed copies of The Narcissism of Small Differences will be available from Book Beat of Oak Park, Michigan. I’ll be signing books before and after the event (in mask and rubber gloves), so books can also be personalized. To order, just email BookBeatOrders@gmail.com or call Book Beat directly at (248) 968-1190. (Operators will be standing by during the event too.) Books can be shipped or picked up directly at the store via curbside service.
Join me Tuesday, May 5th at 8pm on my Facebook page and learn just how low your threshold for entertainment has gotten!

Michael Zadoorian is the author of the novels Second Hand, Leisure Seeker, Beautiful Music and the short story collection The Lost Tiki Palaces of Detroit. His latest novel The Narcissism of Small Differences will be officially released by Akashic Books on 5/05/20. You can visit the author’s inner sanctum here.
“Here’s my official spiel on the book, which comes out May 5th: Set in bottomed-out 2009 Detroit, THE NARCISSISM OF SMALL DIFFERENCES is the story of an aging Gen X creative class couple stuck between mainstream and alternative culture, sincerity and irony, achievement and arrested development. It’s a comic novel about selling out, buying in, and compromise: the financial compromises we make to feed ourselves; the moral compromises that justify our questionable actions, and the everyday compromises we all make just to survive in the world. Yet it’s also about the consequences of those compromises and the people we become because of them. And big surprise: there’s tiki in it.” –Read the entire interview with Michael Zadoorian at: Detroit Tikiphile
