October is National Reading Group Month!

The Legend of Mothman & Spookhaus Apokalypse!

A Live Shadow Screen Horror Spectacle of low comedy: The Legend of Mothman and the Spookhaus Apokalypse!

Two new chiller shadow plays The Legend of Mothman, and Spookhaus Apokalypse! will be performed live as part of the Halloween program at the Detroit Institute of Arts in the lecture hall on October 25th at 8:30 pm and on Oct. 27th at 3:30 pm. The plays were written by Cary Loren and the puppetry created by Ann Arbor artist Tom Carey.

Southfield Battle Books Alert!

The battle books will be announced on Monday, November 4, and will be available for purchase at Book Beat. We are also bringing them with us to the Sharon M. Draper event at the Southfield Library on Monday, November 4, if you would like to pick them up

Romance Superstar Beverly Jenkins at Book Beat Sat., Oct. 26!

Romance superstar and Detroit native Beverly Jenkins will be appearing at Book Beat on Saturday, October 26 from 3-4pm to sign copies of her many bestselling books and to promote her latest release, Destiny’s Surrender. Books will be available for signing and purchase at the event. If you have any questions or would like to reserve any of the titles, please call Book Beat (248) 968-1190. This event is free and open to the public.

Two Events with Author Bruce Feiler on Tues., Oct. 29 & Wed., Oct. 30!

Join us to welcome author Bruce Feiler to the Canton Hindu Temple (44955 Cherry Hill Road, Canton, MI 48188) on Tuesday, October 29 from 7-9pm and at  Temple Beth El (7400 Telegraph Rd  Bloomfield Hills, MI 48301) on Wednesday, October 30 from 10am-12pm. Registration is required for both events and open to Township residents only. Only two tickets per household. Information on picking up tickets will be emailed to everyone. October Reading Group Selection

Book Beat’s Reading Group selection for October is Ancient Sorceries and Other Weird Stories by Algernon Blackwood. The Reading Group will meet Wednesday, October 30 at 7pm in the Goldfish Teahouse (117 W 4th St, Downtown Royal Oak, MI 48067). Books are discounted 15% at Book Beat. All are welcome!
