Join us on Sunday, October 19, from 3-5:00 p.m. for a special program celebrating the 101st anniversary of Surrealism with special guest artist/historian Hope Palmer and Cary Loren in dialogue. Please rsvp Book Beat by email or phone (248) 968-1190 to reserve a seat. (If you have already responded, please note: the earlier date we made for this event has been changed.)

The discussion will cover Surrealism as a revolutionary movement that crossed borders between literature, visual art, music, and politics. We will trace its origins in European literature and philosophy, its evolution through global and multicultural channels, and its many often overlooked women contributors. From its foundation and inception to current manifestations in popular culture, we will engage with Surrealism as a living, breathing force of cultural imagination.

Hope Palmer is an art historian, writer, lecturer, and painter specializing in modern and contemporary art. Her many years in the field has yeilded an incisive view of 20th and 21st century art and the important artists who shaped this period. An abiding interest in Surrealist art and artists during this period of creative ferment resonates and still shapes artists of today. Join us for this exciting dialogue.
