ABOUT OLD HEART

Old Heart tells the story of Tom Johnson, an American soldier who is part of the Allied liberation of the Southern Netherlands in the fall of 1944. He works with a Jewish translator, Sarah van Praag, to smuggle food and supplies to starving residents of northern cities trapped behind Nazi lines. They also fall in love.

Sixty years later, in the summer of 2005, Tom foils his family’s plan to move him to an assisted living facility by flying to the Netherlands. He is determined to reconnect with Sarah, the love of his life.

This film reveals the hidden history of how America fought the world’s greatest racist with a segregated Army. The film also reveals details on the Red Ball Express, the only integrated Army unit that was central to the rapid advance of General Patton’s Army toward Germany after D Day.

ABOUT SEARCHING FOR PATTY HEARST

On the night that Patty Hearst was kidnapped in 1974, journalist Roger D. Rapoport was a short distance away in his El Cerrito home. He quickly became one of the primary reporters covering the saga as it unfolded in real time. His reporting gave local and national readers a window into one of the most bizarre and polarizing crimes in U.S. history. Now, fifty years later, he has written a novel that draws us back to that time. In this compelling new book, he explores alternative theories of the crime and delves into the complex psychology of many of the key actors in a drama that kept the country riveted. Using the techniques of fiction, Rapoport gives voice to much of the story that fell outside of the bounds of journalistic coverage.

Roger Rapoport is the Michigan based author, film producer, journalist and playwright who heads the Heartland Independent Film and Drama Forum. His company Glenside Productions is home to three award winning feature films he cowrote and produced, Coming Up For Air, Pilot Error and Waterwalk. His play Old Heart, adapted from Peter Ferry’s novel, premiered in Detroit and Muskegon, Michigan in 2022. A new film adaptation premieres in America and the Netherlands in spring 2025 just ahead of the 80th anniversary of World War 2 liberation. Rapoport’s novel Searching for Patty Hearst from 2024 has been called, “the most important book about the whole Patty Hearst episode.”
