He was flooded with images; soon the torrent pooled into a collection of 13,000 postcards from around the world on the theme of waterfalls. They inspired Yokoo’s work for a time, but they eventually became just so much trash. This book contains reproductions of every one of these postcards, presented as a sort of “memorial” to the collection. Said the artist: “I think there are only two ways for a man’s madness to transform into sanctity. One is to create or collect tiny things, endlessly. And the other is to create one stupendous object. These waterfall postcards happen to exemplify the former, that is collecting small things to the point where one gets bored by the end.”

Published 1996 by Shinchosa Company.
