La Celebración: Art book by Nando Murio
Mexican printmaker Nando Murio (b. 1985), whose fantastical illustration work has paid homage in the past to the likes of Hayao Miyazaki, He-Man, the Little Prince, and Scorsese’s Taxi Driver, here sticks close to real life, appropriating a home movie of a child’s birthday party. Murio redraws and screenprints 48 frames of the film to create a sweet little flip-book animation of the kid sampling some cake while sitting on dad’s knee. Each page is a six-color serigraph, printed onto stiff, purplish-gray paper, in Kraft-paper brown cardstock covers. This copy is very fine in wraps, number 34 of an edition of 37 (signed and numbered in pencil by the artist), created in October 2020 for Ediciones Concordia MX, an independent art book press co-owned by Murio in Querétaro, Mexico.
