Crackers (1969, first edition)

Stills from a film made by Pop artist Ed Ruscha, from a script by comedy writer and musician Mason Williams entitled “How to Derive the Maximum Enjoyment from Eating Crackers in Bed,” make up this silly photo-story. A man turns the bed in a run-down hotel room into a bed of lettuce, sprinkling it with vegetables; he then invites a classy woman over to lie in it, dousing her with vinegar and oil to turn her into a huge salad. Suddenly the man realizes what’s missing; he dashes off to get a box of Saltines, which he then eats alone in a different (much nicer) hotel room. Williams’ script is included on the back flap of the dust jacket.
