About the Book

A beautiful, crisp copy of Susan Meiselas’ landmark first monograph, Carnival Strippers. Published in 1976 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux, this powerful photobook documents the lives of women working the girl shows at New England country fairs between 1972 and 1975. Blending raw, intimate black-and-white photography with audio interview transcripts, Meiselas captures the complex reality of the carnivals, creating a classic text in the history of documentary photography.

There is light rubbing to the panels and minor creasing along the top and bottom edges. Includes three small chips: two minor chips at the spine ends and one small chip on the top edge of the rear panel. Now preserved in a protective, archival Mylar sleeve.
