Candy Darling: My Face for the World to See

Of all the Andy Warhol superstars, Candy Darling was arguably the brightest. This book compiles edited diary entries written at different times and in different journals with various letters and sketches. Includes a preface by filmmaker Mary Harron who directed I Shot Andy Warhol and by Jeremiah Newton and Francesca Passalacqua, who were friends and roommates of Candy Darling.

The story, told through diary entries, letters and drawings, of James Lawrence Slatterly, who became Andy Warhol’s superstar Candy Darling. The volume reveals her confusion about her sexuality and gender identity, her loneliness, desperation, and ultimate frustration at society’s refusal to accept her and its rejection of who she truly was. Darling’s life is summarized in a short poem at the end of the book titled “Stardusk”.

A very fine near mint copy, bound with pink vinyl padded boards with gilt on both sides and spine, metal lock pasted down to cover and two keys are present. Now quite scarce.
