About the Book

Tyrannus Nix? is a book-length political satire written in the late 1960s, targeting the presidency and political climate of Richard Nixon. Distinctively designed in a landscape format, the text is a facsimile reproduction of Ferlinghetti’s own handwriting, giving the collection an immediate, personal, and performance-driven energy characteristic of the era’s protest literature.

About Lawrence Ferlinghetti (1919–2021)

Lawrence Ferlinghetti was an influential American poet, painter, and social activist closely associated with the Beat Generation. In 1953, he co-founded City Lights Booksellers & Publishers in San Francisco, which became a vital epicenter for counterculture literature and a landmark for free speech following his landmark 1957 obscenity trial for publishing Allen Ginsberg’s Howl. A prolific writer and champion of independent poetry, Ferlinghetti served as San Francisco’s first Poet Laureate and continued writing and painting well into his centenarian years.
