Monster Boom!: A Tokusatsu Baddie Fanzine (2026)
From Chicago’s Goodbye Press comes this 2026 third edition of their zine devoted to the monsterous bad guys of “tokusatsu” movies and TV programs (live action shows that feature crazy costumes and practical special effects only — no CGI! — such as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Ultraman). Features photo spreads and brief bios on numerous creatures from the 1970s to the 2020s, curated by Ben Marcus and Brian Uhl, as well as three essays: Matthew Sage on “Monster Theory”; Colleen Louise Barry invoking kabuki theater and Sontag’s “Notes On Camp” vis-à-vis Power Rangers villain Rita Repulsa; and Gray Lantta lamenting the failure in the 1995 Power Rangers flick.
60 pages; printed in four-color Risograph, with laminated cover and saddle stitch binding.
