An original photogravure reproduction of George Henry Seeley’s Girl with Dog, published as Plate V in Camera Work No. 20 in October 1907. The original issue identifies the image as a photogravure made directly from Seeley’s original negative.
The photograph shows a young woman seated beneath trees with a dog beside her. Seeley’s soft focus and deep shadows give the image a quiet, atmospheric quality. This particular impression has a particularly rich tonal range, with deep brown and sepia tones.
The photogravure is tipped onto a sheet of heavier rag paper, which is itself tipped onto an original Camera Work page. The layered presentation is characteristic of the finely produced photographic plates associated with the publication.
