An original photogravure reproduction of Hugo Henneberg’s Villa Torlonia, made from his photograph of the Villa Torlonia gardens in Rome and published in Camera Work No. 13 in January 1906.
The photograph looks through dark trees toward the villa, with its architecture reflected in the water in the foreground. Henneberg’s use of deep shadows and soft tonal transitions gives the image a quiet, atmospheric quality characteristic of the Pictorialist photography published in Camera Work.
