Alfred Stieglitz: Photogravure on rice paper, Horses, 1904

Alfred Stieglitz — Horses (1904)

Camera Work, No. 12, October 1905

An original photogravure reproduction of Alfred Stieglitz’s Horses, made from his 1904 photograph and published in Camera Work No. 12 in October 1905.

The photograph depicts three horses standing together, their forms emerging from the soft, atmospheric tones of the image. Stieglitz’s use of light, shadow, and the rich tonal range of photogravure gives the photograph a quiet, painterly quality.

The image is printed on rice paper and mounted on a larger sheet. The mount is in fine condition. Please see the accompanying photographs for details of the print and mounting. Matted size is 14×18 inches.
