Cave Girl minicomic, signed by Gary Panter
This is an unusual minicomic from 2003 by the “King of Punk Art” Gary Panter. (“His work forms a missing link between the 1960s underground comix movement and the punk-inspired alternative comic scene a decade later.” —Lambiek.net) Apparently created on the occassion of a touring music and literary event, the front cover of the mini announces a show called “More Hair Less Bush” (a reference, presumably, to then-president George W. Bush), with performers, dates and locations listed. The back cover promotes a light show put on by Panter and Joshua White (“an evening of hand-made hallucination and secrets revealed”).
The interior is a six-page story of “Cave Girl,” a savage-looking topless character navigating a futuristic city of robots, creatures, and cartoon-faced transit systems.
Eight pages, quarter-letter size, photocopied on green cardstock and saddle-stitch stapled. Signed on the back cover in pencil by Panter. Stamped in red with the date “Sep 13 2003.” Scarce! [PB10]
