The Book Beat is located at\u00a026010 Greenfield, in\u00a0Oak Park, Michigan. A large group of guest authors and artists will be in attendance to sign and meet guests including; <\/a>Amy Ackley<\/a>,\u00a0 Kathryn Madeline Allen<\/a>,

There will be live music, artists, authors, discount prices, refreshments, prizes, a Mexican taco truck and an outdoor tent to help contain the celebration. The party is free and open to the public \u2013 come celebrate with your locally-owned, independent bookstore. A more complete listing and schedule with author signing times will be issued shortly.<\/p>\n

Music will be provided by Jazz vocalist Shahida Nurullah<\/a> with poet M.L. Liebler <\/a> backed by the Coyote Monk Band and folk-jazz songwriter Sarah June.<\/a><\/p>\n

  • The Book Beat has been serving the metro-Detroit area since August of 1982, offering one of the best selections in the area for literature, arts and children\u2019s books. The store is an important resource for parents, educators, artists and writers.<\/li>\n
  • The Book Beat has sponsored hundreds of adult and children’s authors from across the country and overseas, offering an opportunity for the public to meet and experience writers and their books first hand.<\/li>\n
  • A small backroom gallery at Book Beat has exhibited many internationally known artists and photographers.<\/li>\n
  • Over the years the Book Beat has published small catalogs in art, photography, along with poetry books, music, buttons and posters.<\/li>\n
  • For over 15 years, the Book Beat has sponsored a local reading group specialized in world lit, classics and books in translation. Meetings are usually on the last Wednesday of the month.<\/li>\n
  • Book Beat opened in the Detroit Metro area before any of the large chain stores arrived and before Amazon began.<\/li>\n

    In 2012, at Book Expo in New York, the Book Beat was recognized by the National Women\u2019s Book Association and awarded the\u00a0Pannell Prize<\/a>, for being one of the best general bookstores in the country specializing in children\u2019s books.<\/p>\n
