We had a chance to talk briefly with author Patrick Rothfuss after his May 2nd book signing held at the Baldwin library.\u00a0 About 70 of Patrick’s enthusiastic fans came out to hear him speak about The Name of the Wind <\/em><\/a><\/strong>and its upcoming sequel, The Wise Man\u2019s Fear<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Patrick read a little from his amusing column “The College Survival Guide”, and talked about blogging, writing, teaching, his\u00a0 family and connecting to the community of fantasy\u00a0 authors. He also announced the publication of a dark satirical fantasy book, THE ADVENTURES OF THE PRINCESS & MR. WHIFFLE<\/a>, a title we will have in stock soon.<\/p>\n

Of contemporary fantasy writers, Rothfuss recommended three;\u00a0 Brandon Sanderson<\/a>,\u00a0 UK author Joe Abercrombie<\/a>, and a woman writer currently living and teaching in Chicago; Nnedi Okorafor<\/a>. Patrick noted he especially liked Okorafor’s ZAHRAH, THE WINDSEEKER, winner of the 2008 Wole Soyinka Prize<\/a> for literature in Africa.<\/p>\n

When asked what world lit classics helped shape his vision, Patrick chose three;\u00a0 Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales<\/a>,<\/em><\/strong> the play Cyrano de Bergerac<\/strong><\/em><\/a> by Edmond Rostand, and the Memoirs of Giacomo Casonova<\/a>. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

We look forward to another visit with Patrick Rothfuss, hopefully when the sequel is published around March 2011.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
