Supriya Kelkar, author of Ahimsa, at the Bloomfield Township Public Library, October 16th, 7 PM

On Tuesday, October 16th at 7 PM join us at the Bloomfield Township Public Library for a reading and booksigning with Ahimsa author Supriya Kelkar.

The author of Ahimsa will discuss her journey in becoming a writer. This interactive presentation will include her writing and editing process, source checking, writer’s block, and her own experience being born and raised in Michigan. Ahimsa is her debut middle-grade novel inspired by her great grandmother’s role in the Indian freedom movement and has received numerous starred reviews and several awards. Recommended for 5th grade to adult.



Born and raised in the Midwest, Supriya learned Hindi as a child by watching three Hindi movies a week. Winner of the 2015 New Visions Award for her middle grade novel AHIMSA, (October 2, 2017). Supriya is a screenwriter who has worked on the writing teams for several Hindi films, including Lage Raho Munnabhai and Eklavya: The Royal Guard, India’s entry into the 2007 Academy Awards. She was an associate producer on the Hollywood feature, Broken Horses. Supriya’s books include AHIMSA, THE MANY COLORS OF HARPREET SINGH (Sterling, 2019), and THE SANDALWOOD PYRE (Tu Books, 2020). Supriya is represented by Kathleen Rushall at the Andrea Brown Literary Agency.
