Julie Larios & Julie Paschkis at Oak Park Library, Wed., July 15

Book Beat and the Oak Park Public Library are co-sponsoring a summer children’s author & illustrator event featuring author & poet Julie Larios and author/illustrator Julie Paschkis on Wednesday, July 15 from 2:30-3:30pm at the Oak Park Public Library (14200 Oak Park Blvd, Oak Park, MI 48237). pzonkaJulie Paschkis is a painter, textile designer, and award winning illustrator and author of books for children. Her latest book, which she wrote and illustrated is P. Zonka Lays an Egg, along with illustrations for Albert the Fix-It Man. PABLO NERUDA:POET OF THE PEOPLE by Monica Brown is an Americas Award Winner and an Orbis Pictus Honor book. NIGHT GARDEN: POEMS FROM THE WORLD OF DREAMS by Janet Wong was a 2000 New York Times Best Illustrated Book. YELLOW ELEPHANT by Julie Larios received a 2006 Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor Award Book. Many of her books have been named to Best Books of the Year list including GLASS SLIPPER, GOLD SANDAL by Paul Fleischman, which a NY Times Notable Book, a BookSense Pick, a New York Public Library 100 Best Book, and a Kirkus Best Book for 2007. Poet Julie Larios taught for seven years on the faculty of the Vermont College of Fine Arts in their MFA-Writing for Children program and recently returned full-time to her writing. She has published four books of poetry for children, including: Immaginary Menagerie (illustrated by Julie Paschkis), Yellow Elephant, On the Stairs, and her most recent book, Have You Ever Done That?  She is the winner of a Pushcart Prize and has been included twice in the annual Best American Poetry series for her poetry for adults, and was granted a fellowship by the Washington State Arts Commission/Artist Trust.
