Dennis Lehane

From Gone, Baby, Gone to Mystic River to Shutter Island (all made into movies) to The Given Day, the phenomenal Dennis Lehane has proven himself to be one of the most versatile and exciting novelists working in America today—whether he’s breaking new ground with uniquely inventive psychological suspense, redefining the detective story, or bringing a bygone era to life with sweeping and masterful historical fiction. He has written for HBO’s The Wire and Boardwalk Empire, and occasionally makes guest appearances as himself in the ABC comedy/drama TV series Castle.

Rhoda Janzen
At the end of her bestselling memoir Mennonite in a Little Black Dress, Rhoda Janzen had reconnected with her family roots, though her future felt uncertain. In Mennonite Meets Mr. Right, this overeducated professor starts dating the most unlikely of men—a weight-liftin’, church-goin’, truck-drivin’ rocker named Mitch—and begins a surprising journey to faith and love. Convinced that his bedrock character has something to do with his Pentecostal church, Rhoda suits up for a brave new world of sparkler pom-poms and hand-clappin’ hallelujahs. Equal parts hilarious, witty, and moving, Ms. Janzen’s books are perfect for anyone who has taken an unexpected detour only to find that new roads lead to rich destinations.
Gloria Whelan
An accomplished poet, short story writer, and novelist best known for her award-winning children’s and young-adult fiction, Gloria Whelan won the annual National Book Award for Young People’s Literature for her novel Homeless Bird. in 2014, she won the IPPY silver medal for her short story collection, Living Together. In nearly thirty-five years, Ms. Whelan has written fifty-two books, many of which are historical fiction novels, including a trilogy set on Mackinac Island and a quartet series set in communist Russia. Her short stories have appeared in in The Ontario Review, The Virginia Quarterly Review, The Gettysburg Review, and other literary quarterlies, as well as in several anthologies, and in Prize Stories: the O. Henry Awards.
