The mission of Read in the Park is to foster a love of reading by connecting with authors and illustrators through the books they create. Since March is National Reading Month, we celebrate by inviting some of our favorite local authors to sign and discuss their respective work. Here is a brief overview of the authors and their books:
Lisa Wheeler is the award-winning author of dozens of children’s books including the popular Dino sports series (Dino-Baseball, Dino-Hockey, Dino-Soccer, etc.), Ugly Pie, One Dark Night, and her latest title, The Pet Project- Cute and Cuddly Vicious Verses. She lives near Detroit, MI.
“Cleverly mixing suspense and humor, this well-crafted book . . . Will surprise, satisfy and spur repeat readings.”–Publishers Weekly on One Dark Night
Bryan Chick is the author of the Secret Zoo series (ages 8-12). Secret Zoo: Traps and Specters is the fourth and latest release in the series.
The Secret Zoo tells the ongoing story of Noah, his sister Megan, and their best friends, Richie and Ella, who live next door to the zoo. One day Megan disappears, and her brother and their friends realize it’s up to them to find her. Their only choice is to follow a series of clues and sneak into the zoo. But once inside, will they discover there’s much more to the Clarksville City Zoo than they could ever have guessed?
“A fast-paced mix of mystery and fantasy…It promises to be the beginning of a popular series.” School Library Journal
Ruth McNally Barshaw is the author of the Ellie McDoodle series (ages 7 and up). Ellie McDoodle: Most Valuable Player is the fourth and latest release in the series.
Ellie McDoodle is the new kid in school and nobody likes to read and draw as much as she does. The other kids tease her, and even the teachers can’t seem to get her name right. Join Ellie McDoodle as she takes pen in hand and chronicles the woes-and happy surprises-of being a new kid.
“Reminiscent of Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid… Humorous and realistic.” —School Library Journal on Ellie McDoodle New Kid in School
