Detroit Jazz is a first edition hardcover in dustjacket released November, 2013, and signed by the photographer John Osler.
John Osler is a Detroit photographer and painter. His new book Detroit Jazz, is a hardbound collection of 90 black and white and color photographs documenting the renaissance of Detroit through the resurgence of its music. High quality printing fixes many of Detroit's most well known players as well as international stars of the jazz stage. Osler's close-up portraits deliver intimate revealing views both onstage and off.
Detroit has a storied past in jazz. Now the story continues. In large part, because of the strength and spirit of one citizen, Gretchen Valade. Because of Gretchen, Detroit holds its head high when an event unique to Detroit, the world class Detroit Jazz Festival, happens every Labor Day weekend. How like Detroit to have such an event and make it free.
