Following the success of last year’s event, Book Beat is having two local authors for Valentine’s Day, Sunday, February 14th from 12-2:30 PM. Wong Herbert Yee and Kathryn Madeline Allen will be reading from and signing copies of their books. In addition, guest readers will be reading favorite Valentine’s Day tales to help everyone get into the festive spirit. As a special treat, Book Beat will again be making valentines, an activity open to all ages. Join Book Beat for this free event and celebrate the holiday with us.
If you have any questions or would like to reserve any copies of the books, please call Book Beat (248) 968-1190. This event is free and open to the public. Book Beat is located at 26010 Greenfield Rd, Oak Park, MI 48237.
Wong Herbert Yee is a Detroit native and the author/artist of dozens of children’s books, including: The Mouse and Mole series, Fireman Small, Eek! There’s A Mouse in the House, and Hamburger Heaven. His latest early reader, Mouse and Mole Fine Feathered Friends received a 2010 Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Award. Herb is a loyal supporter and friend of Book Beat, who’s work we are proud to say has been in print for over 20 years!
Kathryn Madeline Allen is a children’s author who writes picture books that promote parent-child interaction and that help teach babies and young children about nonverbal communication, diversity, manners, and love. With Eric Futran’s beautiful photographs of real children, Show Me Happy and A Kiss Means I Love You work well in any preschool or early elementary setting. Young children enjoy imitating the actions depicted in the colorful photos, learning at the same time.
