By the author of Sharp Teeth, a novel of love, spies, and witches in 1950s Paris—and a cop turned into a flea

“Tolkien meets Graham Greene meets Anne Rice in this wild, surrealistic caper.”  –New York Magazine

“Spies and witches; sex and Kafka; boomtown Detroit and postwar Paris. Honestly: Toby Barlow’s novel seems like it should fly apart at the seams. Instead, it swirls together and becomes more than the sum of its parts, a dark glittering literary emulsion that riffs on old myths and makes some new ones. I can think of only one explanation for this effect: Toby Barlow is a warlock. BABAYAGA is his potion. Drink up.”  —Robin Sloan, author of Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore

“A heady mix of dark magic, espionage and occasional free verse, Babayaga, the sophomore novel from Toby Barlow (Sharp Teeth) mixes a traditional take on Eastern European witchcraft tales with the author’s skewed sense of humor and a wistful brand of romance.” –Shelf Awareness

“… Barlow is not merely satisfied to believably inject magic into his narrative. As Babayaga meanders through the City of Light, it becomes deeper and even more fascinating— a meditation on love and secrecy and magic and what it means to be human that moves far beyond its intriguing premise. Babayaga is a book that, appropriately, casts a spell that’s hard to break.” –-Book Pages
